Cisco: Change Password

The enable password is similar to the superuser or Administrator password and protects your router. Only after authenticating with this password can you make changes to your device.

To change or set the enable password to PaSsWoRd

config t
enable secret PaSsWoRd

The ability to telnet into a Cisco switch greatly simplifies remote administration of the device. This recipe describes enabling telnet logins and password protecting them.
To enable telnet logins into a Cisco switch and set the telnet password to keepout use the following commands from configuration mode:

config t
line vty 0 4
password keepout
